Water Science Hub – Understanding Water at a Molecular Level
Understanding the science behind alkaline water helps you make informed choices about your health. Here's a comprehensive look at water science.
The Chemistry of Alkaline Water
Water (H₂O) is made of 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom. When water is ionized (through electrolysis), it splits into: Alkaline water (hydroxyl ions OH⁻ dominant) and Acidic water (hydrogen ions H⁺ dominant).
What is ORP (Oxidation-Reduction Potential)?
ORP measures the ability of water to act as an antioxidant or oxidant. Positive ORP (+200 to +600 mV): Regular tap/RO water — pro-oxidant. Negative ORP (-100 to -800 mV): Alkaline ionized water — antioxidant. The more negative the ORP, the more antioxidant power the water has.
How Water Ionizers Work
Water ionizers use electrolysis — passing electrical current through water — to separate it into alkaline and acidic streams. Platinum-coated titanium plates act as electrodes. The alkaline stream (pH 8.5–11) is for drinking. The acidic stream (pH 4–6) is for external use.
Micro-Clustering of Alkaline Water
Regular water molecules form large clusters of 10–13 molecules. Ionized alkaline water forms smaller clusters of 5–6 molecules. These smaller clusters penetrate cells more easily, providing superior hydration and nutrient delivery.
How Alkaline RO Purifiers Work
Alkin's Alkaline RO Purifiers use a 10-stage process: Pre-sediment filter → Activated carbon filter → RO membrane (removes 99.9% impurities) → Post carbon filter → Mineral filter (adds calcium, magnesium) → Alkaline filter (raises pH to 8.5–9.5) → UV sterilizer → Copper filter → Hydrogen filter → Final polishing filter.
